2009 NFL Mock Draft

1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -
This is my end of Regular Season mock draft. The Dolphins are in a bit of a difficult position with this first pick. They may or may not believe they have a quarterback of the future in John Beck, and they do not seem likely to take the draft's most talented player, RB Darren McFadden, since they have Ronnie Brown, a recent top 5 pick. If Miami can't trade down, it is likely they will select Jake Long. A two year captain at Michigan, one of the nation's most premier schools at producing o-linemen, Long has everything you look for in a 10-15 year standout at Left Tackle.
2. St. Louis Rams -
Dorsey, regarded as the nations top defensive talent, will form an extremely formidable tandem with last year's first round pick Adam Carriker. Dorsey is in the mold of Warren Sapp, simply because of his explosiveness and ability to rush the quarterback. Dorsey showed his toughness this year playing through various injuries and showing up almost every Saturday.
3. Tennessee Titans -
Atlanta is a team in shambles, and they need to effectively completely reconstruct their entire team. The best way to do this is to draft a potential franchise quarterback. Ryan may not have the arm strength of some of the other top prospects this year, but he has all the intangibles possible. He harbors many comparisons to Tom Brady with his coolness under fire, and extremely accurate passes. Ryan has played under the former Green Bay Packers Quarterback's coach this past season at BC, and therefore has learned to effectively run a pro style offense.
4. Kansas City Chiefs -
It doesn't matter that the Jets recently signed Thomas Jones to a 4 year deal; McFadden is a rare talent who possesses the burst to take it the distance every carry catch or return. At 6'2 he is big for a runningback and is a slasher who has a good sense for cutback lanes while on the move. He recently became the only collegiate player to finish as the Heisman runner-up two years running, which shows his consistency to stay at the top of his game. An electrifying player who will provide a similar impact Adrian Peterson has this last year as a rookie.
5. Cleveland Browns -
Kudos to Al Davis for bringing Raider Nation a better version of former all pro Howie Long. His son Chris still shows the same blue collar work ethic, but has a better sense of the game and is able to dominate by acting instinctively. Very similar to last year's top 20 pick Adam Carriker, but Long is a better athlete, and viewed by many as a more complete player.
6. Detroit Lions -
The Ravens have needed help on offense for a long time. Unfortunatly, although the reciever class is deep, there is no player worthy of being picked this high and the team may believe that Troy Smith could provide a playmaker at QB, the Ravens finally decide to replace future hall of famer Jonathon Ogden. Clady, if he declares, will rapidly rise up draft boards because of his combination of size, tenacity, and his athletic ability.
7. Washington Redskins - Laurinaitis, James, ILB Ohio State
Now that Kansas City's front 7 has become established, they now look for an impact player in the secondary. Jenkins is well sized at 6'1 200+ and possesses great recovery speed. Jenkins, who anchors one of the nation's top defenses is viewed as the top corner in one of the position's better classes in recent years. Miami safety Kenny Phillips is also an option here.
8. Oakland Raiders -
Linebacker may be the only position that the Patriots don't have an all world player at. Connor is as polished a prospect as you can get, being the most recent great LBer from linebacker U (Penn State). Connor is a very sure tackler, and has the athleticsm to both blitz and drop into coverage. It is his versatility that will make him a key part of the Patriot's future defense.
9. Philadelphia Eagles - Jenkins, Malcolm, CB Ohio State
The Bengals truly need someone to turn their defense around, and Laurinaitis, the son of a pro wrestler may just be the one to do it. Very similar to Connor in the aspects of blitzing and coverage skills, Laurinaitis is a true football player who plays with reckless abandon and would be an impact defender from day 1.
10. Seattle Seahawks -
It is beginning to become apparent that the Denver D is not only slowing down, but is loosing its athleticism. John Lynch can no longer cut it in coverage, and outside of DJ Williams and Champ Bailey there is no defender that any offensive player fears. Phillips, who could become the next great safety from "The U", has physical tools that favorably compare to other U greats Ed Reed and the late Sean Taylor. Although Phillips played through an injury marred season, his sophomore and freshman season showed a standout athlete with a nose for the ball, sideline to sideline range, and tenascity at the line of scrimmage.
11. Miami Dolphins -
In a great year for tight ends, Rucker has proved to be the most electrifying threat at the position. He has enough athletiscsm to split out wide, and also shows the desire to be a great blocker. Although Missouri runs a spread and his blocking skills aren't often used, he has shown improvement in that area since his freshman and sophomore seasons. At 6'6 with good deep speed, he possesses all the tools to dominate most linebackers and safeties who will try to cover him. Rucker may finally prove to be the other target for Carolina to take away pressure from Steve Smith.
12. Buffalo Bills -
Now that the Rex Grossman experiment has effectively run its course, Lovie Smith drafts Brohm, a highly regarded quarterback from Louisville. Brohm possesses a great understanding of the passing game and has a very strong arm. His decision making is sometimes suspect and he is not very mobile. He resembles a quarterback like Carson Palmer and has all the tools to be a very good player.
13. Jacksonville Jaguars -
The Cardinals pick Arizona corner Antoine Cason who has all the skills of a physical corner but also possesses good speed. His great tackling skills fit seamlessly into the aggressive defense that the Cardinals are trying to create.
14. San Diego Chargers -
Rivers is the prototype outside linebacker, with the size to take on pulling linemen, and the speed to cover tight ends and also blitz off the edge. Rivers is a very experianced player and has been a fixture at USC for last few years. If he can add on more weight, he may even have the potential to play with a hand down at times during games, adding another move to his arsenal of pass rushing skills he could make an immediate impact for the Saints on all three downs.
15. Baltimore Ravens -
Houston is a team on the rise, and Slaton could provide an added spark to their offense. Known as a big play threat either receiving the ball or running it, Slaton could be the most dynamic offensive weapon in this draft. He still needs to add some strength and weight to become a true feature back, but he could make an impact from day 1 if Houston chooses him.
16. San Francisco 49ers -
If the Bills want to stop opposing defenses from stacking 8 or 9 men in the box for Marshawn Lynch, they would be wise to choose another offensive threat to spread the defense out. Kelly would not only do that, but would soon become a go to target for QB Trent Edwards. Kelly is big at 6'4, and has good speed to go along with consistent hands.
Picks 1-16 | 17-32 | 33-48 | 49-64
