2009 NFL Mock Draft
by Tom Evenson - Apr 25, 2009 12:30 AM EST. Email him...
1. Detroit Lions - Stafford, Matthew, QB Georgia
I know its risky taking a qb 1st overall but that doesn't seem to stop anyone. Schwartz probably cant stomach passing on a possible franchise Qb especially because Detroit's never had one. They probably should take Curry here, hes the best player in this draft...but I'm not projecting what they should do I'm projecting what they will do. -Update- the lions traded for Julian Peterson now further solidifying this pick. This seems to be shaping up as a Rodgers vs. Smith fight, the Lions are leveraging talking with Sanchez.
2. St. Louis Rams - Curry, Aaron, OLB Wake Forest
tackle...schmacle! Moving former 1st rd. pick Alex Barron to LT lessens the need to take one in the 1st round they can still pick up a Britton, Beatty, Kropog in the 2nd. Anyways their LB core is probably worse off than their o-line. Hard to pass on the best prospect in the draft at #2.
3. Kansas City Chiefs - Sanchez, Mark, QB USC
I fully expect someone(Broncos) trading up here to snipe Sanchez from the Seahawks. Pioli was known for trading down to acquire more picks and it looks like the broncos are drooling over Sanchez to be their franchise Qb and the patriots brethren have known to help one another, see: Cassell and Vrabel for 2nd rd. pick.
4. Seattle Seahawks - Monroe, Eugene, OT Virginia
If the 'Hawks cant get their heir apparent at qb then they will more than likely take Monroe to eventually replace Jones.
5. Cleveland Browns - Orakpo, Brian, DE Texas
6. Cincinnati Bengals - Smith, Jason, OT Baylor
I think Andre Smith will be a good Tackle prospect but his lack of handling edge rushers drops his stock a bit. The Bengals are comfortable going with Benson at RB, affords them to look else where. They must go with the best value here and protect Palmer and open holes for these RBs.
7. Oakland Raiders - Heyward-Bey, Darrius, WR Maryland
Height, weight, speed guy Davis no doubt loves.
8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Maclin, Jeremy, WR Missouri
With the addition of Tra Thomas the Jags will look to upgrade their WRS whom are-physically-talented but they have to keep trying something to get this passing game going.
9. Green Bay Packers - Jackson, Tyson, DE LSU
10. San Francisco 49ers - Crabtree, Michael, WR Texas Tech
11. Buffalo Bills - Smith, Andre, OT Alabama
12. Denver Broncos - Raji, BJ, DT Boston College
The Broncos have next to nothing for their new 3-4 scheme in terms of lineman.
13. Washington Redskins - Oher, Michael, OT Ole Miss
This comes down to Oher or Cushing but in the end Oher is a better prospect overall and a better fit and their tackles always getting hurt they could use him.
14. New Orleans Saints - Cushing, Brian, OLB USC
Match made in heaven an aggressive play-making LB a definite upgrade over the current solid yet boring set of OLB's. Maybe corner here but they did sign Greer to be a starter they like last years rookie Porter and Randall Gay manning up the nickel.
15. Houston Texans - Matthews, Clay, OLB USC
After addressing the D-line and safety in free agency it comes down to corner or linebacker. I hear they love Matthews and even have his relative and former NFL-er Bruce on the coaching staff.
16. San Diego Chargers - Jenkins, Malcolm, CB Ohio State
Picks 1-16 | 17-32 | 33-48 | 49-64 | 65-96 | 97-128
