2009 NFL Mock Draft
by Jamaal Steady - Mar 18, 2009 4:32 PM EST. Email him...
17. New York Jets - Freeman, Josh, QB Kansas State
Freeman is better than Sanchez. Yes I said it. Freeman is in a mold like Culpepper and Russell, and has the big arm as well. Sanchez is more of a product of a system out there at USC. Surrounded by the high talent at USC, he just started this year and he himself knew if he had stayed, he would lose out on draft money.
18. Chicago Bears - English, Larry, DE Northern Illinois
English would provide a jolt of a pass rush that would dominate like that of their Super Bowl run a few years ago.
19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Sanchez, Mark, QB USC
Sanchez would get pick here because Tampa does not have a clear QB of the future. They are also desperate for a new one as well. Look out before the draft if Cutler is traded to the Bucs, 49ers, Lions, or the Jets as this could very possibly change the draft.
20. Detroit Lions - Maualuga, Rey, ILB USC
I still dont think the Lions will draft a QB this year. This year class is one of the weakest and nexts years class of QB should be more promising. While I did have them getting OT Smith with the first pick, Maualuaga would help a defense that can establish a physical demeanor.
21. Philadelphia Eagles - Britton, Eben, OT Arizona
Britton could be the replacement for Thomas. Reid loves huge lineman so this is like a match made in heaven.
22. Minnesota Vikings - Mack, Alex, C California
Mack was one of the few that was unstoppable at the senior bowl. Mack will take over the huge void left by Birk.
23. New England Patriots - Butler, Darius, CB Connecticut
Butler is crawling up some drafts and would go great here at the Pats. Butler could learn from a lot of the vets and get some experience before being let loose.
24. Atlanta Falcons - Pettigrew, Brandon, TE Oklahoma State
Pettigrew will help draw some of the attention away from Turner and also speedy WR White. Ryan could be in a dream with the weapons that he has.
25. Miami Dolphins - Matthews, Clay, OLB USC
Parcells will go after defense in the first round. Bloodlines are something that Parcells pays attention to and would continue that trend on bolstering up his LB corps.
26. Baltimore Ravens - Maclin, Jeremy, WR Missouri
Maclin could be gone by this selection but due to his route running abilities he would fall. The Ravens will either go WR or CB. They will trade up or down and only go for who they like.
27. Indianapolis Colts - Jerry, Peria, DT Ole Miss
Jerry will help this defense that just never could stop the run unless Sanders is there. And he is a S. So I guess the Colts are playing that new defense with no DT. They could shock everyone getting another WR is they dont sign another is the coming weeks.
28. Philadelphia Eagles - Nicks, Hakeem, WR North Carolina
Nicks is going to be a very sought player come draft time. I am going to go on record now and say that a team will trade up for him or will reach for him. The Eagles are a good fit, as they now can go Jackson and Curtis on long deep routes and Nicks the physical possesion WR.
29. New York Giants - Wells, Chris, RB Ohio State
I say the Giants will go with the best player format or trade down. They filled a lot of their needs this free agency and reaching for a WR now is not the Giants persona.
30. Tennessee Titans - Delmas, Louis, S Western Michigan
Delmas would be great addition to go along with the already stellar defense. I would still rather them get the playmaker Harvin, and thats not out of the question yet.
31. Arizona Cardinals - Maybin, Aaron, DE Penn State
Maybin continues his free falling down to the Cards who will be switching to the all 3-4 defense next year. The Cards have totally lost several players and if the could atleast be competitive come next year, I will be shocked.
32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Kruger, Paul, DE Utah
DE Smith is getting up in age so a replacement is needed. Kruger is a high motor guy that would fit well in Pitt. They could go also OL or DB.
Picks 1-16 | 17-32 | 33-48 | 49-64
