33. Detroit Lions
- Johnson, Michael, DE Georgia Tech
It's easy to see that the Lions are lacking any advantage on defense. They could use a star player that can get the defense's feet off the ground and make much needed stops on defense. Michael Johnson is that kind of player. He can get sacks, fumbles, and everything a team lacking defense needs. |
34. New England Patriots
- Matthews, Clay, OLB USC
Jerod Mayo elevated the Patriots linebacker positions last year. But with the loss of Mike Vrabel, they have a small hole in their defense. But OLB Matthews could be the perfect reliable player to replace him. |
35. St. Louis Rams
- Mack, Alex, C California
The Rams have a are in a situation where they have talented experienced players, but that is it. This is why they came in last in one of the worst divisions in 2008. They have the ability to make big plays, but can't execute these plays because they don't have the reliable players that assure they quarterback doesn't get sacked, or makes a block on a toss to the outside. |
36. Cleveland Browns
- Marks, Sen'Derrick, DT Auburn
Shaun Rogers is one of the better players on the Browns' defense. But his career could end at any time and without anyone that can execute like he can, they could find themselves missing a big part of their gameplan. |
37. Seattle Seahawks
- Britt, Kenny, WR Rutgers
|
| The Seahawks may have Houshmandzadeh now, but they are going to need more receivers to successfully use Matt Hasselbeck to his full potential. Kenny Britt is a fast playmaking receiver, that can combine with Housh to make one of the games great receiving duos. |
|
38. Cincinnati Bengals
- Greene, Shonn, RB Iowa
Chris Perry is a pretty good running back, but he's not the best back in the NFL. So if they bring in Greene it could make a decent double punch running back combination that can get them a good record. |
39. Jacksonville Jaguars
- Smith, Sean, CB Utah
One of the reasons for the Jaguars' poor season was the secondary. They gave up far too many passing yards and touchdowns. A good corner is always a good solution to this problem. Lots of teams in the AFC South have star receivers that give them an advantage. But a talented player in the secondary with man on man coverage can nearly eliminate that issue in a game. |
40. Oakland Raiders
- Nicks, Hakeem, WR North Carolina
In the past two years the Raiders have selected key offensive players as their #1 picks as Jamarcus Russell the quarterback and Darren McFadden the running back. What major offensive position is missing? A quick agile wide receiver. This may be the player that the Raiders have been looking for the passed to years. And if Russell wants a good season, he is going to need a reliable target. |
41. Green Bay Packers
- Smith, Alphonso, CB Wake Forest
Charles Woodson is a great cornerback. Possibly one of the best of the league. But lots of the teams in the NFC North have multiple solid wide receivers and tight ends. So they need to have more than one talented players in their secondary if they want to shut down their opponents passing game. |
42. Buffalo Bills
- Moore, William, S Missouri
The Bills' secondary is not the worst, but they are mostly known for their cornerbacks. And with both corners not being the fastest, without a good safety they are vulnerable to the deep ball game. Which can be dangerous in the AFC East. |
43. San Francisco 49ers
- Beatty, William, OT Connecticut
The 49ers have a great rusher in Frank Gore, and are in the market for a new quarterback. But could be in trouble if they focus on their offense, and are caught with no offensive line. |
44. Miami Dolphins
- Delmas, Louis, S Western Michigan
In the Dolphins' only playoff game against the Ravens, their defense lacked the ability to make big plays. They had one forced fumble, and zero sacks and interceptions. Louis Delmas can help make sure they get more big plays. |
45. New York Giants
- Robinson, Duke, OG Oklahoma
With the loss of Plaxico Burress, the Giants can't rely on their passing game to make big plays. They need to bring in their rushing trio to win games. And with such different kinds of backs, they need an offensive line who can support anyone. |
46. Houston Texans
- Unger, Max, C Oregon
Steve Slaton was one of the best offensive rookies in 2008. He got the most rushing yards, beating out Matt Forte and Chris Johnson. So it is no doubt that he will have a great career. But if they want to get him more yards, they should improve their offensive line to get Slaton past the line of scrimmage. |
47. New England Patriots
- Kruger, Paul, DE Utah
The Patriots have somewhat of an ability to make big plays with the defensive line, with the power defensive tackle Vince Wilfork. But the always reliable defensive ends Richard Seymour and Ty Warren, have both spent a considerably large amount of time in the NFL, and could lose their explosive effect soon. |
48. Denver Broncos
- Moala, Fili, DT USC
Aside from Champ Bailey, the Broncos' defense does not have much of an explosive impact on whoever they are playing. Fili Moala can break through the line to get quick sacks. |
