Kansas City Chiefs |
Watson, Gabe, DT Michigan |
| Anyone have any idea how many tackles the
Chiefs 5 DTs have in week 11? How bout 39. Thats right
39 total tackles between 5 players. Enter Gabe Watson.
Many analysts have this guy rated above Texas' Rodrique
Wright. I dont agree but, nonetheless, the Chiefs will
be thrilled to have this guy with the 17th overall pick.
The Chiefs could also use a big time receiver. But if
you're the Chiefs... would you upgrade your offense or
defense? |

New England Patriots |
Huff, Michael, S Texas |
| Huff has the ability to play either CB or
S in the pros. This will allow the Patriots a lot of creativity
and versatility in deciding how to rebuild their banged
up secondary. The Patriots have done a tremendous job
of creating depth at most positions and that makes them
solid without major holes anywhere. However, there is
no dispute that the secondary has definitely been the
weak link of their team in 2005. |

Denver Broncos |
Lewis, Marcedes, TE UCLA |
| Denver gets this pick from Washington via
the Clinton Portis trade. Conventional wisdom would tell
you that the Broncos would draft a DT here to replace
Mike Myers in the starting lineup. However, Denver has
done a tremendous job overall of rebuilding that line
with the infusion of Cleveland Brown outcasts. Denver
tight ends have 1 receiving TD this year from a position
once held down by Shannon Sharpe. Marcedes Lewis could
easily be a top 15 pick, but I feel that every team to
draft up to know has more pressing needs than TE. With
the addition of Lewis, Denver could have one of the most
explosive offenses in 2006. |

San Diego Chargers |
Scott, Jonathan, OT Texas |
| The Chargers could go many ways with this
pick. They have done a tremendous job building through
the draft over the last couple of years and therefore
have no real pressing needs. Godfrey has hinted that he
could retire after the 2005 season so an ILB could be
the choice. However, the Chargers best player is without
a doubt Ladanien Tomlinson. So they should work to keep
him as productive as they can for as long as they can.
Left tackle is arguably the most important spot on the
football field and Roman Oben is ageing. That being said
there are still two ways the Chargers could go. Jon Scott
and Joe Thomas are both great prospects at OT. It's a
toss up but again I'll go with the bigger guy, thats Jon
Scott. |

Jacksonville Jaguars |
Allen, Jason, CB Tennessee |
| Easy position choice, tough player choice.
Jacksonville has a great young corner in Rashean Mathis
but no one, and I mean no one, to play opposite of him.
Tye Hill and Demario Minter might be more polished CB
right now, but Jason Allen is 6'2'' 200lbs. The others
are 5'10'' and 6'0''. What does this mean? Allen is more
versatile and has more upside. |

Chicago Bears |
Davis, Vernon, TE Maryland |
| The Bears had arguably the best defense
in the league, so it's no secret that they will use their
first pick on an offensive player. However, figuring out
what position isn't as easy. The Bears ran the ball well
in 2005 and last season added Muhsin Muhammed and Mark
Bradley to the receiving corps. The offensive line is
also solid. That leaves only one position TE. Davis has
soft hands and is extremely fast for his size. Bottom
line, he will help whoever the QB is (Grossman or Orton)
move the chains consistently. |
| 23. |
Tampa Bay Buccaneers |
Thomas, Joe, OT Wisconsin |
| Easiest pick in the draft here. Tampa's
defense is great, Galloway and Clayton make a formidable
1-2 receiving punch, Griese was solid before getting hurt,
Cadillac might be offensive ROY, the offensive line is
terrible. Joe Thomas is 6'8'' 300lbs. What more do you
need? |
| 24. |
New York Giants |
Wroten, Claude, DT LSU |
| William Joseph is beginning to solidify
his position as a first round bust. Wroten is a very underrated
DT who, although is not a physically dominating presence,
is a tremendous pass rusher from the DT spot. With Strahan
and Umeyiora providing much pressure from the outside,
having a push up the middle will give opposing QBs nightmares. |

Atlanta Falcons |
Ryans, DeMeco, OLB Alabama |
| This is a gift for the Atlanta Falcons.
Demeco Ryans has had an extremely productive four years
at Alabama and could easily be drafted a lot higher, even
top 15. Atlanta, over the years has had a very good defense,
but was overrated as a unit this year, in my opinion.
They just didn't get much production from their DTs and
their LOLB has only 34 tackles through 11 games. Ryans
could be a late first round pick that steps in and has
an immediate impact. |
| 26. |
Dallas Cowboys |
Landry, Laron, S LSU |
| If one of the 4 OT named above falls to
Dallas here, you can bet the house that they will take
one of them. But if not, the rest of the OT do not warrant
first round consideration. I love Roy Williams, but he
has never been much of a cover safety and Dallas' secondary
was embarrassed in the rivalry game against Washington.
Darnell Bing is probably the best safety available but
he is more of a SS and the Cowboys needs are at FS. Therefore,
look for Bill Parcells to turn to Laron Landry to play
centerfield. |

Seattle Seahawks |
Hali, Tamba, DE Penn St. |
| Hali is not only one of two defensive players
still available head and shoulders above the rest (CB
Charles Gordon being the other), he fills a huge hole
for Seattle. After losing Chike Okeafor to Arizona last
season, Seattle's pass rush has not been the same. Wistrom
is old and Bryce Fisher, despite is 7.5 sacks by week
11, is nothing special. Hali provides much needed depth
and explosiveness in the pass rush. |
| 28. |
Carolina Panthers |
Hagan, Derek, WR Arizona St. |
| Some may argue that S Darnell Bing should
be the pick here after last years top pick, S Thomas Davis
has been a bust for Carolina. But I don't think that Carolina
is gonna give up on Davis quite yet. One guy they might
be ready to give up on is Rod Gardner. The breakout season
by Steve Smith has saved Gardner from much criticism,
but the reality is he was supposed to replace Muhsin Muhammed
as Smith's complement. He has failed miserably and Keary
Colbert hasn't been great either. Hagan narrowly edges
out Florida's WR Chad Jackson here. |
| 29. |
Cincinnati Bengals |
Mahelona, Jesse, DT Tennessee |
| Cincinnati has made huge strides in become
contenders, but has anyone ever heard of John Thornton
or Bryan Robinson? Yeah me neither. But they are the starting
DT for the Bengals. Mahelona is a big 300lb force that
is just quick enough to provide some pass rush up the
middle and still clog the run. Mahelona doesn't get much
attention because he was a JC transfer and has only been
playing on the national stage for two years. But he has
quickly become one of the best pass rushing DT in the
nation. |
| 30. |
Pittsburgh Steelers |
Gordon, Charles, CB Kansas |
| Pittsburgh is a good team with no major
holes. Therefore, I believe that they will draft the project
Charles Gordon. Gordon is extremely athletic but limited
in his experience at playing CB after playing WR for much
of his college career. That remind you of anyone else?
Yeah Chris Gamble who last I checked is an extremely productive
corner for Carolina. If Pitt wants to go down the safer
route OG Max Jean-Gilles from Georgia is a monster on
the O-line and would fit in well in Pitt's power rushing
attack. |
| 31. |
Denver Broncos |
Jackson, Chad, WR Florida |
| This will be Denver's second first round
pick, not bad for the team that was rated the second best
team in the NFL for the majority of 2005. They could use
a DT, but Jackson is a far better prospect than any DT
left, and also is a suitable potential replacement when
Rod Smith decides to hang em' up. Any team willing to
bring in Jerry Rice and David Terrell to bolster their
receiving corps could definitely use a guy like Jackson. |
| 32. |
Indianapolis Colts |
Bing, Darnell, S USC |
| Darnell Bing is somewhat of a project but
has unlimited upside. His awareness hasn't quite reched
his talent level yet, but that should improve with every
game he plays. He often gets to passes a half-second too
late, but his talent is undisputable. USC athletic coordinator
Mike Garrett even took his own number out of retirement
just so Darnell could wear it. Bob Sanders and Mike Doss
are decent but not great safeties. Darnell Bing is somewhat
